Armed bank robber overpowered by pensioner PDFPrintE-mail

74 year old Joaquín Velázquez has earned the nickname 'Super-grandad' after subduing an armed bank robber in his home town of Alcalá del Río (Sevilla).

Joaquín chose his moment carefully, waiting until the robber was forced to put his shotgun down to open the door without letting go of a bag containing his booty of around €16,000 in cash.

Saying that the robber's obvious clumsiness combined with an apparent lack of conviction had spurred him into action, Joaquín admitted that, had he given it a second thought, would probably not have reacted.

His son, José Manuel, said while the rest of the town's residents have congratulated his father, they have also asked him never to attempt the same thing again.
